Top Baby Registry Essentials

Cherylyn Ng

You've just found out that you are going to have a baby and you are all excited about all the cute little clothes and toys you will buy. This is a common scenario, especially for first-time moms. Having a baby registry is important for you to be able to budget for all the things you will need and get all the essentials instead of having 12 cute bowed cardigans for your newborn, that they will never use especially if they will be born in the summer.

A baby registry is a list of baby products that you'd like to stock up on in preparation for your baby's arrival. Just like a wedding registry, you can share your baby registry with friends, family, and baby shower guests who are just as eager as you – or possibly even more – to shower your baby with gifts. You can choose multiple stores to create registries with or come up with a master list that pulls products from various stores into one.

Most moms start creating their baby registry after their first trimester. If you are waiting to find out the sex of the baby, you may want to wait until you are about 20 weeks into your pregnancy, but don't wait too long. You and every gift-giving friend will need plenty of time to browse through the registry to find the perfect items.

It's always a good idea to create a baby registry checklist that coincides with the various stages of your baby's growth and needs. Here is the ultimate checklist:
